Shippensburg University
SU-526.4 Various Residence Halls
Electrical Upgrade
We won a competitive bid as a prime contractor for the electrical renovations to (8) different resident halls at
Shippensburg University. This included, adding new wiring and raceway system to enable the University, for the first
time, to have every dorm room connected to their computer network along with a telephone and cable TV hook-up.
With the size and scope of the project, we acted as the General Contractor with various different sub-contractors
under our management.
We were also under a very tight schedule and at times had to have over 60 electricians at one time
on site.
An overview of this project is:
- Installed overload protection in the main distribution switchboard in eight Residence Halls
- Installed new surge-suppressed computer power panelboards
- Installed raceways for the installation of data, CATV and Fiber Optic cabling.
- Installed the power for the new air conditioning and condensing units for the main data closets.
- Removed existing light fixtures, fire alarm system, PA system, drop ceilings and plaster ceilings in the
corridor areas and disposed of debris.
- Constructed new data closets.
- Installed new ceilings in the corridor areas.
- Patched and painted walls, floors and ceilings as necessary.
- Furnished and installed telecommunication racks.
- Performed excavation, backfill and reseeding.
- Removed and disposed of a pad-mounted transformer containing PCB's and installed
